The utility items that old fabric can churn out - my e-brochure of sorts

1. The quintessential grocery bag: There are a few basic styles - the single fabric bag, the double fabric bag, the into-a-pouch bag and the heavy duty bag. Lots of choice here.

Bags with embellishments - Ojo's, crochet flowers, block prints and such
Bags with cut outs from old tees - one for memory sake!

Bags of GOOD CHEER!

If I was asked when the Christmas pep-in-my-step begins I wouldn't know an honest answer .... last christmas? Diwali? ..... so I thought it would be acceptable if I began doing my Christmas hula and cartwheels as December set on us.

Christmas themed bags and blah have been on my mind ever since I sorted out tailor-scrap into bundles of green and red and I got a whole bundle of Christmas themed fabric from someone's unfinished art project.

Given the anticipation and excitement I have been feeling for a while now you can only imagine what positive energy has gone into making each of these bags. Bring out those sunglasses or be ready for a blitzkrieg of colour :)

The pictures of the individual bags in this picture and the others in the pipeline will be on my Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Stitched2Save9

The Purpose

I grew up in times when old but perfectly fine looking clothes were handed-down, the not so fine looking ones were donated and the torn ones were transformed. And what transformation? Thicker fabric became TV covers, coasters, make-do mittens, other embellishments and softer ones became wipes based on its qualities it either became a vessel wipe, kitchen counter wipe, table wipe, the floor mop or even bandage! We are now in times where there is too much of 'done-with' fabric that even after going through the down-cycling flow chart there is so much lying around getting hoarded.

Stitched2Save9 was the 'something more' I wanted to do (not because of my background but because it is meaningful and I enjoy it thoroughly). I mainly focus on making upcycled cloth grocery bags affordable and easily available. The sight of plastic bags being picked up at one's whim and fancy really irks me! This effort is a committment and not a business venture so while the bags are affordable, the means of making it easily available is still being worked out. The bags are currently marketed on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/Stitched2Save9
and at the organic store Buffalo Back (https://www.facebook.com/Buffalobackorganic)

There are several other utility items that I make and this blog will me tracking that ..... me playing with fabric and the outcome. I enjoy making sense out of all the old fabric and tailor scrap that I have collected. I hope extending the lifecycle of the product does make a difference somewhere in the big picture.

I wholeheartedly welcome suggestions, ideas and queries. Write to me - stitched2save9@gmail.com
